OK guys, today in Computer 101 we will still talk about why pc crash. Sorry it's been a while since the last post, i've been very very busy at the end of year 2008. I only could check my blog by my cellphone. It will be some of physical exercise for my thumb if i try to make a post with it *grin. But enough of that, lets just talk about this now
Part 3. Hard disk drives
Part 3. Hard disk drives
After a few weeks, the information on a hard disk drive starts to become piecemeal or fragmented. It is a good idea to defragment the hard disk every week or so, to prevent the disk from causing a screen freeze. Go to
* Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-Disk Defragmenter
This will start the procedure. You will be unable to write data to the hard drive (to save it) while the disk is defragmenting, so it is a good idea to schedule the procedure for a period of inactivity using the Task Scheduler.
The Task Scheduler should be one of the small icons on the bottom right of the Windows opening page (the desktop).
Some lockups and screen freezes caused by hard disk problems can be solved by reducing the read-ahead optimisation. This can be adjusted by going to
* Start-Settings-Control Panel-System Icon-Performance-File System-Hard Disk.
Hard disks will slow down and crash if they are too full. Do some housekeeping on your hard drive every few months and free some space on it. Open the Windows folder on the C drive and find the Temporary Internet Files folder. Deleting the contents (not the folder) can free a lot of space.
Empty the Recycle Bin every week to free more space. Hard disk drives should be scanned every week for errors or bad sectors. Go to
* Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-ScanDisk
Otherwise assign the Task Scheduler to perform this operation at night when the computer is not in use.

A fragmented Harddrive is very less likely to cause a crash you know, I wouldn't bet on it!
IMHO, frequent disk fragmentation will not guarantee hard disk crashes. It is a logical error but the more nasty ones are the mechanical or physical crashes in the hard drive. The safest thing to do is back up your drive more often so you can be sure your data is safe.

I have cleaned out my tower and gotten rid of all of the dust that i could see. in the tower itself it seems to be cool enough as i have the domestic fan blowing in to the compartment whilst the computer is turned on.
You might have a virus, or perhaps you fiddled with stuff you shouldn't have.Try running a virus scan, checking your cord connections and if its still doing that, take it to a computer guy

Unfortunately, marked improvements in computer reliability have not eliminated the fact that computers do still on occasion "freeze" or "hang." Or even worse, "crash". However, you can take measures to minimise if not eliminate PC crashes and freeze ups.
